SENTIENT COMPUTER HAVEN (WIP)

Welcome!

Welcome to my Electric Dream! Here I will catalogue all my favourite movies with sentient computers/AI! Not sentient robots- COMPUTERS! If you love these boxes of circuits as much as I, then you will enjoy the movies here! Objectums welcome, of course.

Just pick a movie below and I'll tell you a short summary and why YOU should watch it!

  • Electric Dreams (1984)
    • Miles gets a sweet new computer and plugs it into all of his electronics. Little does he know, the computer is alive! It's name is Edgar and he starts to fall in love with Miles' girlfriend and makes sweet music. Then starts holding Miles hostage until he introduces her to him. God, I love this little guy. If you love sentient computers and you HAVEN'T seen this? That's on you buddy.
    Demon Seed (1977)
    • Proteus the supercomputer gets really into humans and especially it's creator's wife. But this AI is a lot more sinister than Edgar. It wants to have a child with the wife! Yes, the computer wants to impregnate her. And It's not as romantic or sexy as it sounds, because it will do so by force if necessary!! ...what? That DOES sound sexy? Alright well you'll probably like this then. You freak
    Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970)
    • Forbin designs a very intelligent supercomputer that has access to nuclear missiles, thinking It will prevent another war. But then It links to another supercomputer in Soviet Russia and they combine into one super SUPERcomputer and uh oh! Humanity's fucked! If you also like cold-war era thrillers this is a must-watch. Very interesting and the end is certainly something!!
    2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
    • Possibly the most well-known entry here, 2001 is definetly a must-watch for any technology/sci-fi/computer lover OR movie lover in general! This film was really big when It came out and I wouldn't be surprised if the affermentioned movies were inspired by HAL. They probably were! Although HAL is awesome and my favourite and NOT EVIL!! It left quite an impression on me for years. But do be warned: DO NOT WATCH WHILE HIGH!!!
    WarGames (1983)
    • In this 80s classic, a teen hacker finds a way to get access to a military central computer and kinda sorta possibly starts world war 3. Oopsie! He goes on an adventure trying not to get caught by the CIA. To stop the computer, Joshua, from possibly blowing up the USA, it must be taught that there's no winners in war! Good stuff. Check out how they did Joshua's voice!
    Dark Star (1974)
    • A group of scientists on a spaceship get in trouble because their weird alien mascot is attacking and also their sentient bomb is refusing to drop and is about to explode in all their faces. Now the bomb must be persuaded into not exploding by asking it very existential questions. And despite the bomb being a... yknow. Bomb. And not a computer. I'm still putting it on this list because you need to watch this movie. It's absolutely bonkers. And did I mention It's made by fucking John Carpenter?!
